Message from the owner…

“The ongoing hostilities in the middle east coupled with the prolonged dry season have led us to make some difficult decisions. With gas prices over $4 a gallon it is inevitable that the industry will react. In nearly 100% of the competition examined there has been a minimum of a 20% uplift in charges – NOT so with us. We have held off on the knee jerk reaction to increase prices (something we rarely do anyway) in favor of waiting a while longer to see if things regulate themselves to a new ‘normal’. We will not be changing prices every week based on what gas is currently selling at – like the competition. At present we are seeing remarkable drought effect on most lawns and with county watering restrictions in place there is little homeowners can do to counter the low rainfalls. This isn’t something that is going to resolve itself overnight – it will take months of heavy rains to replenish the water table to normal levels. As a result lawns are not needing to be cut weekly still – doing so would be detrimental to their survival. I see many yards getting cut shorter and shorter just for the sake of it – no doubt the company responsible will pick up re-sodding the very same yard they have destroyed! We are going to use this abnormal weather to counter the rising costs facing the industry. We will continue 2 week service until the weather turns and we see healthier lawns and more predictable rainfalls. This will hopefully also provide time for the oil price to find it’s new level and we can make a more informed decision on whether prices need to be increased. The industry is heavily driven by gas prices, as you would expect, but please also keep in mind that our weed treatments, fertilizers, machine oil and many tools are also sensitive to oil price movements. Currently we are absorbing around a 30% uplift in day to day material costs. If for any reason this approach doesn’t fit your expectations then please let us know and we will be happy to address it.”
